A little history…

In the Spring of 2005, Erin decided it would be a nice time to organize a 5K race in honor and memory of her father, New Brunswick Deputy Chief Jimmy D’heron. Erin had been an avid runner for many years, and her father was one of her biggest supporters. He would watch his grandkids while she went out for a training run, or watch them as she ran a race! He would sometimes leave his shift at the firehouse at 7 a.m. to drive to her home so she could sneak in a morning run!

Erin wanted to reach out to the community and celebrate the type of life her father lived, while supporting burn survivors and the fire services. She couldn’t think of a better way to do this than to create the Jimmy D Memorial 5K, and hold it on the anniversary of her father’s untimely, tragic death. Erin knew her father, would not want anyone to have a “pity” party, so she decided to have the best party she could, to celebrate his life, and all he did for his family, friends, firefighters and community!

Since the Jimmy D 5K began over $100,000 has been donated! Over 1000 runners register and many volunteer! Firefighters from all over NJ take part, and folks look forward to this fun day for the entire family! The race has taken on a life of it’s own! It has become a day to celebrate family and life, and we know that is exactly what Jimmy would want!

So, lace up, get running, ignore the blisters, ignore the heat and think about the ice cream, cotton candy and barbeque waiting for you at the Finish Line! On this day, let there be a little bit of Jimmy in all of us! Life is great and he knew it!
